Layer Base Egg Incubator — Installation, Operation and Maintenance

This model-specific guide explains the Layer Base incubator's fan-speed settings, basket installation, turning gearbox, digital controllers, water supply, float mechanism and operating procedures.

For general incubation principles, egg selection, storage, candling and bird incubation periods, refer to the General Support guide.

Layer Base — Main Operating Specifications

Machine Body ABS
Insulation Thickness — Specification Table 5 mm
Temperature Controller Digital — 0.1°C
Humidity Controller Digital — 1%
Internal Temperature 37.5–37.7°C
Incubation Humidity 55–65%

Critical Layer Base Operating Instructions

Fan speed must match the number of baskets being used. Incorrect fan speed may dry the eggshells and cause chicks to suffocate, according to the original Layer Base manual.

Factory settings: Do not change the incubator's controllers or float settings unnecessarily. Follow the model-specific adjustment procedures only when adjustment is required.

Humidifier warranty: The humidifier is excluded from warranty coverage because water hardness differs between regions.

Correct Fan Speed for Different Basket Quantities

The Layer Base manual specifies three fan-switch positions according to the number of baskets in operation.

Baskets in Use Fan Switch Position
1 basket I
2 or 3 baskets O
4 or 5 baskets II

Follow the specified fan-switch positions. The manual warns that an unsuitable fan speed can dry eggshells and cause chicks to suffocate.

The original Layer Base manual illustrates the I / O / II switch on page 1. Match the indicated settings to the actual switch on your machine.

Basket Installation and Positioning

Layer Base uses a multi-basket structure. Correct basket positioning is important for proper installation and operation.

  • Stack the baskets in the correct order.
  • Make sure the baskets are aligned and securely seated on one another.
  • Confirm that turning-motor cables are connected correctly.
  • Check the basket positions before closing the incubator.
  • Select the correct fan-switch position for the number of installed baskets.

What Condensation Behind the Tray Glass Means

The Layer Base manual states that condensation behind the tray glass may indicate that cold air is entering because the baskets are not positioned correctly.

Check basket installation: Verify that all baskets are properly aligned and securely seated.

Layer Base — Main Machine Components

1. ABS Body and Insulation

The machine body is described as ABS with a 3 mm insulating layer in the component description of the supplied manual.

The technical specifications section gives 5 mm as the insulation thickness. Verify the actual specification before using either figure as definitive.

2. Digital Temperature and Humidity Controllers

  • Digital temperature controller with 0.1°C resolution.
  • Digital humidity controller with 1% resolution.

Temperature Controller Indicator

When the measured temperature is below the configured value, the thermostat's red indicator light turns on.

When the temperature reaches the configured value, the red indicator light turns off.

3. Egg Turning Gearbox

Red indicator lights are used to show gearbox operation.

Egg-turning movement is very slow, so it may not be easily visible.

Checking gearbox operation: The manual advises checking for warmth and vibration to confirm that the gearbox is working.

4. Water Container and Float

The Layer Base water supply includes a water container, water hose, inlet valve and float mechanism.

  • Position the water container on a flat surface.
  • Keep the water hose away from direct sunlight.
  • Check that the float operates correctly before stacking the baskets.
  • Do not change the float settings except when necessary.
  • The water inlet valve does not need to be fully opened.

Installing the Layer Base Water Connections

The original Layer Base manual includes photographs illustrating the water-line assembly.

  1. Place the water container on a flat surface.
  2. Check that the float is correctly positioned and operating properly.
  3. Keep the water hose away from direct sunlight.
  4. Install the water connections according to the original photographs and diagrams.
  5. Do not fully open the water inlet valve unless necessary.

Follow the original connection photographs. This written summary does not replace the illustrated water-line installation instructions provided in the manual.

Layer Base — Step-by-Step Installation and Startup

Follow the original model-specific installation sequence before starting the incubator.

  1. Stack the baskets in the correct order.
  2. Connect the wires for the turning motors and humidifier.
  3. Confirm that the baskets are securely positioned on top of one another.
  4. Check the water container, float, hose and connections.
  5. Connect the incubator to its electrical supply.
  6. Check that all digital controllers are illuminated.
  7. Check that all turning-motor indicator lights are illuminated.
  8. Confirm that the red heater indicator is on when heating is required.
  9. Confirm that the fan is operating correctly.
  10. Select the fan-switch setting matching the number of baskets in use.
  11. Complete the necessary pre-operation checks.
  12. Position the eggs upright in their turning cups, with pointed ends downward.
  13. Close the incubator and check that the baskets and door are properly seated.

Internal conditions specified in the installation section:

  • Temperature: 37.5–37.7°C.
  • Relative humidity: 55–65%.

Layer Base — Daily Equipment Checks

  • Check the fan-switch position against the number of baskets being used.
  • Confirm that the digital temperature and humidity controllers operate normally.
  • Inspect the red turning-motor indicator lights.
  • Monitor the water supply and float mechanism.
  • Ensure that the baskets remain securely positioned.
  • Check for condensation behind the tray glass.
  • Confirm that the water connections remain secure.

Fan-speed warning: Incorrect fan settings may dry eggshells and reduce hatching performance.

Temperature and Humidity Controller Settings

Factory calibration: The incubator is configured at the factory. Do not change its settings unless adjustment is necessary.

Humidity Controller Adjustment

  1. Press and hold the SET button for a few seconds.
  2. Adjust the humidity value using the ▲ and ▼ buttons.
  3. Press SET to save the setting and exit.

Chicken egg humidity setting stated in the Layer Base source: 65%.

Temperature Controller Adjustment

  1. Press and hold SET for a few seconds.
  2. Adjust the third digit using the ▼ button.
  3. Press ▲, then adjust the middle digit using ▼.
  4. Press ▲ again and adjust the first digit.
  5. Press SET to save and exit.

Chicken egg temperature setting stated in the Layer Base source: 37.5°C.

Important: These are the adjustment procedures described in the Layer Base manual. They are not a recommendation to change correctly functioning factory settings.

Layer Base — Preparing for the Hatching Stage

The Layer Base incubator uses a hatching mesh at the bottom of the machine after the turning cups or trays are removed.

For chicken eggs, this change is made at the hatching stage, as described in the original manual.

  1. Carefully remove the eggs and temporarily place them in a separate container.
  2. Remove the turning cups or trays from the machine.
  3. Place the eggs on the hatching mesh at the bottom of the incubator.
  4. Close the incubator door.

General precautions for the setter and hatching stages, chick removal and candling are covered in the General Support guide.

Layer Base — Component Maintenance

  • Use the correct fan-speed setting for the number of baskets.
  • Check that the egg-turning gearbox operates correctly.
  • Keep the water system and float functioning properly.
  • Keep the water hose away from direct sunlight.
  • Check the water container, inlet valve and connections.
  • Inspect the digital temperature and humidity controllers.
  • Avoid unnecessary changes to controller and float settings.
  • Verify the alignment and stability of the baskets.
